| "The
War Pony" Bronze, Ed. of 35 20"H x 22"L x 12"W $6,700 |
WAR PONY The Gun of "Many Shots" or "Heap Firing" was the name the Indians gave the 1866 Winchester. The ability to operate this twelve shot repeating rifle from the back of a horse gave rise to the Indian developed technique of leaning over the side of the war pony and firing the weapon under the neck of the horse. This superb bit of horsemanship not only gave the indians the protection of the body of the horse, but offered his opponent a smaller, swiftly moving target. |
